WSJT-CB

WSJT-CB is an open-source fork in the WSJT-X software family, adapted for 27 MHz / 11-metre operation and CB-style station identifiers. The project credits 1AT106 / 1XZ001 Vash as its main fork developer and acknowledges the original WSJT-X work associated with Joe Taylor, K1JT.

It is an application adaptation, rather than a separate family of modulation protocols. A contact made in FT8 still uses FT8 timing and waveform conventions.

CB-specific changes

The project documents an 11-metre band entry, validation of numeric CB prefixes and group identifiers, country display based on CB prefix tables, and changes to automatic contact sequencing. Its main interface exposes FT8, FT4, FST4 and Q65.

Examples of recognised identifiers include 1AT106 and 26AT101. Format support depends on the release, including restrictions on longer unit numbers and compound identifiers. CB group identifiers and country-prefix tables do not constitute amateur licence callsigns or operating authorisation.

Non-standard calls and decoding

Structured weak-signal messages have a limited payload. Non-standard identifiers may therefore use different message layouts or a callsign hash. A monitoring station can display <…> while it lacks the mapping from a received hash to a full callsign. The project explains that this can be normal protocol behaviour rather than an automatic-sequencing failure.

Operators should interpret the complete exchange, including reports, acknowledgements and sign-off, rather than infer a completed QSO from one isolated decode.

Station configuration

Operation requires an appropriate transceiver and audio interface, suitable CAT or PTT control, accurate computer time, a locator and the selected station identifier. Audio drive and transmitter linearity remain important: CB-specific parsing cannot correct clipping or frequency instability.

The repository lists 27.265 MHz as a preferred FT8 working frequency and also lists 27.045 MHz for some settings. These are software defaults. In particular, 27.045 MHz is among the channel centres excluded by the standard CEPT CB harmonisation plan. Actual transmission must use frequencies, modes and equipment permitted by the applicable national rules.

Availability and documentation

The project is published under GPLv3. The XZGROUP project page provides downloads and the repository provides source code and build information. The English guide and README describe particular releases; use the documentation matching the installed build when checking accepted identifiers and defaults.
